Biography

Electa Stone Staples was born on 19 June 1867 in Callao Bay, Peru, on her father's ship, the Sarah A Staples.²
Tradition said that she was named for the woman in a ship nearby that helped with her birth.²
She married Arthur Blodgett Munroe, son of Marcellus Munroe and Mary Williams Blodgett, on 14 July 1893 in Stockton Springs, Maine.¹
Arthur and Electa had a summer home in Searsport on the water side of Route 1. The home was called 'The Iris' due to the number of iris that they grew in their garder.²
Electa Stone Staples died on 1 January 1949 in Newton, Massachusetts, at age 81.¹
The cause of her death was a heart attack followed by pneumonia followed by a blood clot (in those days they weren't as careful about getting peopleup and moving.)²
She was buried in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, Massachusetts.¹

Story

Recollections of a granddaughter, Polly Munroe Furbush

After her husband's death Electa ran a Bed and Breakfast in her summer home in Searsport. She also catered luncheons there. For many years 3 ladies from New York City and their companion came to stay for two months each summer. Until the house was sold around 1941 I spent all my summers there with her. In the winter months she moved back to Massachusetts, not to live with her son, but to work. She was a head cook for the Walnut Hill School in Natick. Following that she became a housekeeper for a Natick High School teacher. Each Sunday she would spend the day with us (her son and his children.)

Mary Williams Blodgett was born on 29 July 1835 in Hudson, New Hampshire.¹

It has been said that she was very successful and was able to help relieve many from sickness and suffering.²

She married Charles Munroe, son of William Munroe and Lucy Frost, after 1850.¹
On 31 December 1874 after her husband Charles died Ellen married Lewis P Bartlett.²
Ellen Morse appeared on the 1920 US Federal Census of 55 Park Ave North, Arlington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, enumerated on 8 January 1920. They rent their home.³
She died after 1930.¹
