Doris I. Stoddard, age 88, of Pine Island, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was born on August 13, 1923, in Wanamingo, to Paul and Berntine (Ree) Jacobson. She graduated from Wanamingo High School. She worked at the family meat market and at Toby's the local restaurant in Wanamingo as a waitress. On April 10, 1943, she married Douglas Stoddard at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo. They moved to New Orleans before Douglas' deployment for WWII. They later returned to Pine Island where they started their family. She worked at United Methodist Church in Pine Island as the secretary for several years, TC Travel as a contact person, and Stoddard Enterprises as a secretary and bookkeeper until her death. Doris was an active member of the United Methodist Church, helped with Boy Scout and Girls Scout activities, and also was an election judge. She enjoyed doing crosswords, scrabble, knitting, and crocheting. She was also an avid animal lover and enthusiast.
Doris is survived by her son, Larry Stoddard of Pine Island; daughter, Leigh Ann (Dwight) Vold of Rochester; granddaughter, Lisa Doherty of Rochester; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas who died on March 19, 1996; sisters, Theodora Johnson, Tina Goff, Harriett Midtaune, Dorothy Weberg, Nora Skobba, Polly Bjugan, Lil Eckstrom; brothers, Al Jacobson, and an infant brother.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, July 9, 2012, at United Methodist Church in Pine Island with Pastor Dave Neil officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Best Friends Animal Society. Arrangements were made with Mahn Family Funeral Home – Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.
