April 30, 2005 in Milford, formerly of W. Concord, Sudbury & St. Cloud, FL. Husband of the late Marion F. (Sargent) Johnson. Father of Raymond L. Jr. & wife Daryl of Merrimack, NH. & George F. & wife Margaret of Holliston. Also survived by 5 grandchildren & a great-grandson.

EXETER -- Ruth E. Sargent died Jan. 20, 2009.
She was raised in Calais, Maine, and graduated from Calais Academy in 1939.
International travel began at a young age, frequently walking across the bridge, over St. John's River to St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada. After high school she moved to Massachusetts in 1939 to work in Waltham at the watch company. There she assembled parts on a contract for timing devices for the war effort. While in Massachusetts, she met and married Albert H. Sargent. Their first house was in Burlington, Mass. She enjoyed traveling, during her lifetime visiting all 50 of the United States. She also traveled internationally and in 2001 achieved the goal in her high school yearbook to visit Calais, France.
Ruth retired from GTE - Sylvania of Exeter, where she was an assembler. She was an avid reader. Her many activities included walking, knitting, and crossword puzzles.
IN HER LIFE: She also was a weaver. After retirement, she was a member of Oasis, a travel group in Exeter. She was an active member of various church missions committees over her life, and was a strong supporter of Christian Appalachia Project and the International Heifer Project. She affirmed her commitment to Jesus Christ at a Billy Graham crusade in Illinois in 1988. She was a member of the Candia Congregational Church.
She was the daughter of Delmont W. Smith and Mary A. Smith (Fleming). Her husband and lifetime friend, Albert H. Sargent, predeceased her in 1980. Her siblings, George, Charles, Vera, and Margaret also predeceased her.She leaves behind her sons, Charles Sargent of Morris, Ill., Robert Sargent of Candia, and Arlene Sturgis of Morris, Ill. She has nine grandchildren; Timothy Sargent, Paul Sargent, Carisa Kolias (Sargent), Brianna Merrill (Sargent), Greta Sturgis, Shavonne Morin (Sargent), Gregory Sturgis, Serena Sargent, and Moriah Sargent. She has seven great-grandchildren, Amana Joy Merrill, Talia Merrill, Ephrim Kolias, Caedan Merrill, Skylar Rae Sturgis, Jimmy Sargent, and Calem Kolias.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Candia Congregational Church. The Rev. Renee Rouse will officiate. Spring burial will be in Auburn, Maine.
