• Accrding to tradition from his grandchildren, all his pottery was destroyed when the British burned Charlestown (on the day of the Battle of Bunker Hill) on 17 Jun 1775.⁷
• John enlisted 23 Mar 1778 as a private in Capt May's Roxbury Co. of Col. McIntosh's First Suffolk Regiment during the Revolutionary War, and served on the Roxbury lines until 5 Apr 1778.⁷
