Obit Notice

An obituary was published in The Deseret News on 14 March 2009

Merlene Chapman Bartholomew, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother passed away March 10, 2009 in Gunnison, Utah. Born in Sterling, Utah to Ray and Verl D. Christensen Chapman on April 19, 1924.

Merlene graduated from Manti High School and married her sweetheart Shirley J. Bartholomew on November 25, 1942 for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple. Her beloved husband passed away December 13, 1965 after only 23 years of marriage.

In the absence of her husband, Shirley, Mom created a wonderful family environment to finish raising her young family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She created a home of love, laughter, and caring and where we all wanted to be. Above all else, Mom was a tremendous spiritual support to our family, sharing with us her strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She consistently exemplified a Christ-like life to us and to others. She was fully involved in her responsibilities in the LDS Church, gladly serving in the Young Women?s, Primary and Relief Society programs. Mom had a talent of writing poetry and we looked forward to being the recipient of her poem written especially for us.

Survived by her children, Eugene (Sheila) Bartholomew, Bruce (Arlene) Bartholomew, Sherry (Steve) Anderson, Kendall (Catherine), all of Mayfield; 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Earl Chapman and sister Lucille Peterson.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 13, 2009 in the Mayfield LDS Chapel. Burial will be in the Manti City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary.
