Charlene Kathryn Cunningham, of Jackson, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the age of 70 years. She was the daughter of Charles and Kathryn Hunt, born September 9, 1942 in Jackson. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Gary and her parents. She is survived by her son, Michael (Anne-Marie) of Brooklyn, her daughter, Kristi (Dusty) Gilson of Michigan Center, three grandchildren; Sean, Charlie, and Mallory. Charlene worked in the Accounting Department at Patrick Petroleum and was a librarian for the Jackson District Library. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. According to her wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Her Life will be held at the Michigan Center Three Horse Club, 4793 East Page Avenue, Michigan Center, Michigan 49254 on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 120 East Wesley Street, Jackson, Michigan 49201. Lewis A. Winegarden, 91, of Bradenton, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011. Lewis was a World War II, Army Veteran and worked for Ford Motor Co. in the Tractor Di-vision. He was an avid golfer and member of the Key Royale Golf Club.
He is survived by his loving wife Jane of 70 years, three devoted children, Lynne Lampman of Bushnell, Florida, Jon and his wife Marsha of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Robert of Cary, North Carolina, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 3:00pm, at Faith United Methodist Church, 7215 1st Avenue West, Bradenton. In lieu of flowers, do-nations may be made in Lewis' memory to Sara-sota National Cemetery, 9810 State Highway 72, Sarasota, Florida 34241.
RICHARD ALAN WINEGARDEN brought joy to the lives of those around him from his birth on August 21, 1948 to his early death at 61 years old on August 11, 2010.He was born in Muskegon, Michigan and graduated in 1966 from Itazuke High School in Japan. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and a Masters of Business Administration. He received his CPA in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Winegarden and his sister, Nancy Wannamacher. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Diane Winegarden; sons: Michael and wife Carrie, Alan and wife Kaitie; his grandchildren: Michael, Nathaniel and Samuel; mother, Virginia Winegarden; sisters: Linda Cannaliato, Carol McGee, Kathy Ries and husband Tim, Cindy Harrington and husband Jack; his beloved sister-in-laws: Barbara Lindsey and husband Ken, Kathy Fesler and husband Doug, Lulu Lary and husband Richard, Helen Carney and husband Pat; and brother-in-laws: Zack Tsafantakis and wife Barbara, Tony Tsafantakis and wife Irene. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and many great friends.Serving as Pall Bearers are Ken Lindsey, Zack Tsafantakis, Doug Fesler, Tony Tsafantakis, Richard Lary, Pat Carney, Tim Ries and Jack Harrington.
Rick served his country as a Vietnam Veteran in the Navy. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal 4 Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, and First Good Conduct Award.
Rick joined the Houston Chronicle in 1975 as Accounting Manager then Assistant Controller, Controller, Resident Controller and in 1996 was named Chief Financial Officer. In 1998 he was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In 2007, until retiring in 2009, he led the Hearst Newspaper Centralized Financial Group.He was a member of the Pearland Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones award, a prestigious award showing commitment to the humanitarian work of Lions Clubs International Foundation. Before retiring he served as Secretary/Treasurer of the charitable Goodfellows Club of Houston, Secretary/Treasurer of Readers Are Leaders Foundation, Treasurer of the Mental Health Association of Greater Houston Foundation and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Houston Chronicle Employees Federal Credit Union.
His hobbies included brewing beer, wood working, cooking, and spending time at his weekend home in Sargent. Rick was a beacon of light, a pillar of strength and source of joy to all he touched. He was enriched with humor and generosity, and had a heart as big as Texas. Family was a very important part of his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a loyal caring son, brother, brother-in-law, best friend, and a truly remarkable human being.We who are left behind must live our lives in a way that would continue to reflect the ideals and humor that Rick held so strongly.
