Earl Preston Keith

Oct. 17, 1921 — Feb. 7, 2007

Earl Keith, 85, of Brownsville died Wednesday at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.

He was born in Chetopa, Kan., the son of Clarence W. and Hallie C. (Smith) Keith. He moved to Oregon with his family in 1927, and they settled on a farm northwest of Corvallis and lived there for eight years, with Earl attending grade school at Corvallis Mountain School. They moved to Brownsville in 1939.

Earl graduated from Brownsville High School, where he met Eleanor Isom. They were married June 14, 1942, in Brownsville.

He served an apprenticeship for an electrician and worked for an electrician in Junction City for two years.

Earl served in the Navy for three years during World War II.

He and Eleanor moved back to Brownsville in 1948 and he started his own electrical business for nine years. He then worked for an electrical contractor several years, traveling throughout Idaho, Montana and Washington, doing various electrical jobs for this company until retiring in 1978 due to health problems.

Earl served on the Brownsville City Council for two terms, was a member of the Neighborhood Watch and a member of the Brownsville Christian Church.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Reinhold Fischer of Cheshire, Janet and Larry Nichols of Halsey, Erleen and Bill Tharp of Bend, and Nancy and Ken Warden of Shedd; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1977, his mother and brother in 1983, and his wife, Eleanor, in 1999.

A memorial service will be Monday at the Brownsville Christian Church. Private interment will be at Brownsville Pioneer Cemetery.
