Blanche Denton Walter, 92, went home to glory to be with her Lord and Savior, whom she loved and served all of her life, on December 24, 2004. Blanche was born on December 12, 1912 in Greens Landing, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence E. Walter, Sr.; and by two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her two children, Beverly (Bill) Brigham, Greenville, S.C., and Rev. Lawrence E. (Carol) Walter of Dalton, Pa.; six grandchildren, Sharon (Jeff) Shapiro, Hawthorne, N.Y.; Sidney (Brandy) Brigham, Greenville, S.C., Daniel (Judy) Walter, Dimock, Pa., David (Debra) Walter, Cortland, OH, Susan Walter, Dalton, Pa., and Barbara (Michael) Venett, Saugerties, N.Y.; 12 great-grandchildren, Sarah Faith Shapiro, Sydney and Brayden Brigham, Benjamin, Mark, Abby, Sarah Elizabeth Walter, Sam, Brittany (Moon) and Zachery Walter, Hannah and Alyssa Venett; and one great-great-granddaughter, Alexis Tiffany Moon; a special niece, Amy Lou (Wally) Ramsdell, and several other nieces and nephews. Blanche was a teacher, beginning at 19 years of age, in the one-room school house of the Gates District, Maine, N.Y. Later she taught in the Maine-Endwell Schools. Mrs. Walter was also a Sunday School Teacher for 54 years at First Baptist Church in Maine, N.Y. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Dalton, Pa.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Maine, N.Y. Burial will follow in Maine Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 12 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at church preceding the funeral. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, gifts be made in her memory to the BaYouCa Dining Hall Project, P.O. Box 204, Marathon, N.Y. 13803.
