YORK - Perry E. Turner, 88, of 78 York St., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Portsmouth Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Lakeview, the son of Colby W. and Mildred (Clewley) Turner, and graduated from York High School in 1941.

Perry served his country in the Army during World War II before being discharged on Jan. 3, 1946. Perry farmed with his father on Brixham Road in York until 1955 when the family moved to York Village, where he began his 30 years working for the U.S. Post Office. He was one of the first letter carriers in the town of York. He was a volunteer firefighter with the York Village Fire Department from 1954 to 1975. In his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, repairing small machinery, repairing books for the library and helping the church with mailings.

Perry leaves behind his three girls, Sally A. Turner, and her life partner, Ted Boardman, of Portsmouth, N.H., Betsy White, of Lake City, Minn., and Kathleen Turner and her life partner, Brian Morrison, of Charlestown, Mass.; and other family members. He also leaves many great friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Oliver) Turner; and his two brothers, Raymond and William Turner.

Burial will follow in First Parish Cemetery. (Kennebec Journal 11/3/2012.)
