errence Hugh Howard
On May 17, 2009, Terrence Hugh Howard passed away suddenly of an aneurysm. He was born in Monmouth, Illinois on May 16, 1938 to Erma and Jack Howard. His sister Glenda preceded him in death. Terry attended Lake Forest Academy and Beloit College, where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in Economics. After marrying Kathleen Lehmann in 1960, they moved to California. He resided in San Rafael for 48 years. Terry had a successful career as a stockbroker, and over his career, he had owned his own brokerage firm, and was a Principal with Mutual Securities. He worked from a home office from 1979 until he retired. Terry had a variety of interests, which kept him in top physical and mental condition. Besides spending time with his five granddaughters, he enjoyed weekly hikes on Mt. Tam, Saturday motorcycle rides in West Marin, Mondays volunteering as a puppy socializer at Guide Dogs for the Blind, and attending his French-group meetings. Every year he spent several weeks hiking in the Grand Canyon, had trekked around Annapurna in Nepal, hiked the John Muir Trail, and he traveled with his family and friends to many places around the world. Terry had many friends from his participation in all these activities, and he always spoke about his friends fondly. Terry will be remembered as an adventurer with a great sense of humor and a keen intellect. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathie Howard; three children, Jack Howard (Kathy), NY, NY; Mari Kernan (Tom), San Rafael; Gigi Shackelford (Matt), Sacramento; five granddaughters Hanna, Maggie, and Elly Howard and Savannah and Grace Shackelford; several nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends. There will be a gathering of family and friends between 1:00 and 4:00 on May 30, at The Panama Hotel Restaurant & Inn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you send donations made in Terry Howard's honor to Wilderness Volunteers, PO Box 22292, Flagstaff, AZ 86002-2292.
