Joyce Marilyn Robertson-Sweeney of Bella Vista passed away in Redding on January 23, 2012 with her loving family by her side. She was born on February 6, 1929 in Barker, NY to Stanley and Helen Bauer. The Bauer family moved to Anderson, CA when she was a teenager and she graduated from Anderson High School in 1947.
Joyce married Frank Robertson in 1947, and they raised three children together. She was a dedicated mother to her children, and became a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Brownie leader and a volunteer at school where she supported her kids in every kind of youth activity imaginable. Her home, in the Oak Shore Subdivision in Anderson, was always a hub of activity for her children, her nieces and nephews, and the many neighborhood kids living nearby. She was always eager to load these kids into her car or into the back of a pickup truck and then take them camping, swimming, skating, or anywhere else their hearts desired. Life was full of county fairs and car races and fishing trips. Her joyful imagination and tireless, positive energy gave us childhoods that few people can even imagine. It was fitting that her beloved Sisters called her, "Joy".
After raising her children, Joyce attended Shasta College where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing at the age of 50. She became a Registered Nurse and spent her 18-year medical career working at Mercy Hospital in Redding. Joyce and Bob Sweeney were married in 1992 and they established a home in Bella Vista that Joyce truly loved. It was a place where she spent many happy hours feeding and watching deer, turkeys, squirrels and birds. She loved cooking and baking for her family and for her neighbors, and she especially loved watching sports. She was a devoted football fan, but loved baseball and NASCAR as well, and she was actively involved in the Red Hat Society. She and Bob also spent many happy days traveling in their RV with the Moose Lodge RV Club. Many of those friends remained close to her in her final days. She loved her cats, entertaining friends and family, gardening, sewing, arts & crafts, and spending time with her kids, grand kids and close family members. She also greatly enjoyed being the adopted Grandma of her neighbors, the Casey Stomps family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul Bauer, her sister Gloria McCarron, and her step father Bill Joseph.
She is survived by her husband Bob Sweeney, sister Pat Jackson of Millville, brother Doug (Eileen) Bauer of Anderson, son Bob (Denise) Robertson of Fernley, NV, son Eric (Cathy) Robertson of Chico, daughter Jo Ann Krummen of Los Gatos, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
