Jane D. Spingler, 92 , of Syracuse, passed peacefully at her home, Thursday, November 5, 2020.

A native of Woodbury, CT, she resided in Syracuse for 64 years. She retired in 1998 from Syracuse University where she worked at the Newhouse School of Communications after being the receptionist at Day Hall.

During her lifetime, she worked as a switchboard operator with the Woodbury Telephone Company, in a General Store fabric department (Sheboygan, WI), hostess at The Curtis House (Woodbury, CT), before moving to Syracuse where she also worked for the Bell Telephone Company, Chappell's Department Store and Hidden Valley Apartments. She volunteered at Community General Hospital, Reach for Recovery, AARP, Rescue Mission and at the DeWitt Community Church where she was a member for almost 50 years and a member of their "Cut Up" group.

In March 2004, she was awarded the "Cloud of Witnesses" by Syracuse University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry's Interdenominational Protestant Campus Ministry for giving herself through volunteerism and acts of compassion. Mrs. Spingler enjoyed time with family and friends most of all. She also enjoyed Syracuse University basketball and watching professional tennis and golf.

She is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Reese L. Spingler; and her grandson, Matthew Jason (Schoeneck). Surviving are her daughter, Beth Anne McCarty of Pittsburgh, PA; her son and daughter-in-law, John Jay and Jennifer Spingler of Clay, NY; five grandchildren, Elena Marie, Lauren Jane, Landon Reese, Jaelyn Rae and Kenley Marie; and several nieces, nephews and their next generations. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 11 at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt, for family only. To view the service remotely please visit https://www.facebook.com/FairchildandMeech. Burial will be at the Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Food Bank of Central New York, 7066 Interstate Island Rd, Syracuse, NY 13209, in lieu of flowers.
