Biography

Daniel Youngs was born in 1718 in Oyster Bay, New York.
Daniel was a weaver. He was apprenticed by his father to Enoch Flower in 1732 to learn the trade of weaver.
He married Hannah Underhill, daughter of Peter Underhill and Penelope Alling, in 1746 in Oyster Bay, New York.
In 1756 he and his brother Thomas divided their father's farm, Thomas retaining the homestead, and Daniel taking "the other house" on the East side of the Cove Road opposite the cemetery. In 1776 he signed to support Congress.
His wife Hannah died on 12 September 1759 in Oyster Bay, New York, leaving him a widower at age ~41 .^2,3
Daniel Youngs married Hannah Woolsey estimated 1771.⁴
He died on 13 December 1784 in Oyster Bay, New York, at age ~66.
He was buried in Youngs Cemetery, Oyster Bay, New York.²

Will

Daniel Youngs left a will dated on 7 November 1784 and proved 20 Dec 1786. He gave Daniel 300 pounds, and gave Samuel the bulk of his estate.

Thomas Youngs was born in 1645 in Salem, Massachusetts.
He married Rebecca Mapes estimated 1666.¹
His mother Margaret died about 1669 in Southold, New York, at age ~57.
He was not mentioned in his mother's will.
He married Elizabeth Harcurt, daughter of Richard Harcourt and Elizabeth Potter, estimated 1672.¹
Thomas Youngs was a rope maker.
On 4 October 1673 On 4 Oct 1673 Thomas received a grnt of land at Greenwich CT.
In 1676 He was granted land 20 Jun 1676. The land was 3 acres of land for a home lot, on the south west side of the Cove Neck swamp. In 1687 he was made an "equal townsman". In 1694 he was granted the liberty to spin rope yarn and make rope. He continued making rope. He made the rope "up the Hollow by his shop on the Commons". On 2 Dec 1689 he gave all his Greenwich land to his son John. On 2 Feb ? he sold to his father-in-law Richard Harcurt all his right in Unqua Neck. On 10 May 1699 he gave his son Thomas 30 acres "nigh" to Cold Spring. In 1703 he comveyed land to Samuel and reserved part of the land to continue making rope for himself. He had various parcels of land at Cove Neck, the Cove, Yellow Coats, Laurel Hollow and the head of Dire Hollow.
He died in 1720 in Oyster Bay, New York, at age ~75.
In 1869 a monument was erected by the Youngs family to the memory of Thomas Youngs, who first settled in Oyster Bay Cove about 1640.²
