    Grandmother: Joanna Lane b. 10 Dec 1732 d. 1 May 1804 Charlestown

    Father: John Runey (1758-1829)

    Mother: Hannah Sargent b. 25 Aug 1787 d. 6 Aug 1839

    Sister: Eliza Ann (Runey) Adams

There is a reason nobody can find a birth, marriage, or death for John Runey Sr; it is because he is John Runey Sr, son of James & Joanna (Lane) Runey and I don't know why some of the records were indicating that he was a junior, but he was not, he was son of James. He was older than Hannah when they married, abt 51y. I didn't think anything of Hannah having her last child in 1829, because she had plenty of children before. But 1829 is when her husband died, and when child bearing stopped. ~ Historic Homes and Places and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs, Volume 4, pg 1549 & 1550, edited by William Richard Cutter

John Runey Jr was a Selectman at Charlestown, 1834. Somebody had stated that the nuns at the convent were being held against their will, and he made a 'protection law' that they may leave the convent if they choose. The convent was actually owned by his grandmother, Joanna (Lane) Runey, until her death in 1804. She must have willed it to the church, but certainly an uncomfortable situation for Selectman Runey no doubt.

John Jr took over his father's pottery business at Charlestown (this part became Somerville), and added a site at Cambridge. He built a new house in Charlestown, 1837, and I haven't seen anything stating that he removed to Cambridge after that.

Note: It appears John Runey that d. Jan 1858 went into holding and was buried in space 2 in this lot. It also appears that re-interments happened at the time of his burial with the babies going into space 1. I'm not too sure of this because this John went into space 3 or 4, so somebody else went into space 3 or 4 as well. I think the mix-up with the records is that 2 babies from Somerville were buried in lot 1 or 3, John Jr went into space 2, John Walter was left off and was prob interred from Charlestown into 1 or 3, with their father going into 4.
