Edward Leon McClanahan

Edward Leon McClanahan, age 82 of Baxter Springs, Ks passed from this life Friday, November 13, 2009 at his home.
Edward was born December 28, 1926 in Treece, Ks to the union of Clarence "Blonde" and Opal Mae (Horton) McClanahan.
He was united in marriage to Peggy "Joyce" Ivey on June 15, 1951 in Arkansas.
Edward worked in the Picher mines during the 1940's, and worked for his dad at Blonde's Service Station located West of Baxter Springs at the four corners.
Edward then became a truck driver for Yellow Fright and was a member of the Teamsters Union # 823.
He enjoyed bowling and was an avid walker and loved collecting aluminum cans, he was known as the "Can Man."
He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Joplin, Mo.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Opal McClanahan; his wife Peggy "Joyce" McClanahan; one sister Dorothy Lou Bonner.
He is survived by two sons Jeff McClanahan of Baxter Springs. Ks; Mike McClanahan and wife Barbara of Lockport, N.Y.; one sister Katherine Jo Wilson of Kansas City; one grandson Ryan McClanahan of Lockport, N.Y; one niece Judy Clause of Kansas City.
Private family services have been arranged by Derfelt's Baxter chapel, Baxter Springs, Ks.
Edward has been entrusted to Derfelt's for cremation.

Peggy Joyce Ivey McClanahan 02 February 1934 ~ 29 March 2009
Joyce McClanahan, age 75 of Baxter Springs passed from this life Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Freeman Health System, Joplin, Mo. Joyce was born February 2, 1934 in rural Columbus, Ks to the union of Charles and Ann (McBride) Ivey.
Joyce was united in marriage June 15, 1951 in Arkansas to Edward L. McClanahan.
Joyce was a graduate of Columbus High School. After school she attended college and went to work for Dr. Claiborne office as a medical secretary. Upon his office closing in 1979, Joyce went to work for the former Baxter Springs Memorial Hospital retiring in 1997. She is a member of the Central Christian Center, Joplin, Mo.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ann Ivey; and two half brothers. Survivors include her husband Edward of the home; two sons Jeff McClanahan of Baxter Springs, KS, Mike McClanahan and wife Barbara of Lockport, N.Y.; one grandson Ryan McClanahan.
Private family services have been arranged. Joyce has been entrusted to Derfelt's Baxter Chapel for cremation.
