• John Whipple was baptized on 29 August 1596 in St Marys, Bocking, Essex, England.¹
• He married Susannah Clarke on 21 August 1621 in St Andrew by the Wardrobe, London, England.²
• He immigrated to Ipswich, Massachusetts, in 1638.³
• In February 1640/41 in Ipswich, Massachusetts, In Feb 1640/41 he was selected as one of "the seven men" for a term of six months, who were to attend to the town's business. In 1643 the term extended to one year, in 1650 the "seven men" were called "Selectmen". In 1641 he was on the committee for furthering trade and on a special committee to dispose of "Little Neck" so as to promote the fishing interest. He was a deputy to the General court 1640-42, 1646, 1650-53, a deacon and ruling elder in the first church.
• He died on 30 June 1669 in Ipswich, Massachusetts.¹
• He was buried in North Burial Ground, Providence, Rhode Island.¹
• The house that John occupied by John became the Ipswich Historical Society.

Gregory Stone

• Gregory Stone was baptized on 19 April 1592 in Great Bromley, Essex, England.
• He married Margret Gerrad on 20 July 1617 in Nayland, Suffolk, England.
• He married Lydia Fiske about 1627 in Dedham, Essex, England.¹
• He immigrated in 1635.²
• Gregory moved to Nayland from Great Bromley. He lived there until coming to America, shortly after his brother Simon came in 1635. One source says sailed in 'Increase', another says 'Defence' which sailed from London early Jul 1635. The ship had a "bottom too decayed and feeble"...for such a voyage and had a perilous leak. Gregory settled first in Watertown.
• He moved to Cambridge by 1636-7. He was Deacon of the Cambridge church 34 years. In 1643 Deputy for Cambridge to the Mass General Court. He was one of the most prominent men o the community. Proprietor of Watertown but lived in Cambridge. Farmer: had some famous orchards. His farm was on the present site of Harvard's Botanic Gardens.
