He was a deputy to the General court 1640-42, 1646, 1650-53, a deacon and ruling elder in the first church.

  • Gregory moved to Nayland from Great Bromley. He lived there until coming to America, shortly after his brother Simon came in 1635. One source says sailed in 'Increase', another says 'Defence' which sailed from London early Jul 1635. The ship had a "bottom too decayed and feeble"...for such a voyage and had a perilous leak. Gregory settled first in Watertown.
  • He moved to Cambridge by 1636-7. He was Deacon of the Cambridge church 34 years. In 1643 Deputy for Cambridge to the Mass General Court. He was one of the most prominent men o the community. Proprietor of Watertown but lived in Cambridge. Farmer: had some famous orchards. His farm was on the present site of Harvard's Botanic Gardens.
