Story

John lived all his live in Taunton. He was in business as a woolen-draper. As his father's heir he became, at the latter's death, the chief Trowbridge in Taunton and was a man of wealth and prominence. In middle age he was elected mayor of the town and appears to have been conscientious in performing the duties of that office. He was for many years one of the wardens of St. Mary Magdalen Church, and was also a member of the board of trustees of the almshouse, which had been founded in 1615 and was one of the important institutions of Taunton.
