BETHEL - Nancy Ann (Donelson) Hebard, 80, of Bethel, died Sept. 28, 2010, at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph.
She was born in Colrain, Mass., on March 22, 1930, the daughter of Rockwell E. and Harriet (Sears) Donelson. She was educated in the Colrain schools and Arms Academy in Shelburne, Mass., and earned an associate's degree from Becker Junior College in Worcester, Mass.
She was married to Roswell G. Hebard on Oct. 22, 1950. They lived in Halifax for a year, farmed in Guilford for five years, and in Whitingham for the next 12 years. While in Whitingham she was involved in the Citizen's Child Service Committee and the Joyful Jackies 4-H Club. In 1968 they moved to Royalton, where she was a selectman for three years, town treasurer for 10 years and collector of delinquent taxes for 27 years.
She played with the Royalton Town Band in at least four decades and served as its treasurer. She was also employed, most recently by attorney Norman S. Case for many years. She enjoyed her church, helping others, playing bridge and softball, mowing lawns, driving a school bus, family get-togethers and giving out free advice. She was an avid reader and was a regular visitor at the Bethel Library.
She is survived by her five children, Cristine Carabeau of Tinmouth, Mary Fifield of Buxton, Maine, Linda Crawford of Plymouth, N.H., Susan Ireland of Newmarket, N.H., and Norman Hebard of South Royalton; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her brother, Walter Donelson of Colrain, Mass.; four cousins and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Alice Shippee and Ruthie Gilderdale.
There are no public calling hours. A memorial funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Bethel, with the Rev. Diane E. Root officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Old Church Cemetery in Bethel.
