William Peck

Biography

• William Peck was born on 1 November 1601 in London, England.¹
• William married Elizabeth (née unknown) Peck estimated 1621.²
• William was one of the founders of New Haven Colony in the spring of 1638. He was a merchant. He was a trustee, the treasurer and general business agent of the Colony Collegiate School, established on the basis of the Hopkins fund.
• From 1659 to 1694 he was a Deacon of the church.
• His wife Elizabeth died on 5 December 1683 in Lyme, Connecticut, leaving him a widower at age 82 .
• William married Sarah Holt estimated 1684.²
• He died on 4 October 1694 in Lyme, Connecticut, at age 92 at the home of one of his sons in Lyme.
• He was buried in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven, Connecticut. He was burried under Center church New Haven. The gravestone is now in the new cemetery in the northern part of the town (Grove Street Cemetery). It was moved there in 1821 when the church covered the graves.
• ***Research Conclusion: William Peck has been identified (online) as a passenger on the ship Hector. This is false and cannot be proven. Only 5 passengers were listed in contemporary accounts: Mr Davenport (minister), Mr Eaton (merchant), Mr Hopkins (merchant), Lord Ley, and an unnamed minister.³
