Velma E B Livingston
Troy NY - Velma E Blue Livingston, 93, of Troy, died at Leonard Hospital Saturday.
Born in Clay Center Kansas, on April 26, 1889, she moved to Rutland, VT at the age of nine, and in 1913 to Bennington, VT. She was one of the oldest members of the United Methodist Church there. Mrs Livingston had lived in Troy for the past 42 years.
Her husband, J Guy Livingston, is deceased.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Jane Harris of Troy and Mrs Virginia Brantner of Bangor Maine; a sister, Mrs Alice Johnson of Wolfsboro, NH; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 am at the Charles H Mason and Son Funeral Home at 8-109th St. Friends and relatives are invited to a graveside service to be held at Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington, at 1.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Bennington.
Jane Harris
Troy, NY - Jane L Harris, 79, died Thursday at the Albany Medical Center Hospital after a short illness.
Daughter of the late James Guy and Velma Blue Livingston, she was the wife of the late Robert B Harris. She is the mother of Kathleen DeRosa of Troy, Marilyn Collins of Georgia and Robert D Harris of Troy and the sister of Virginia Brantner of Maine. She is also the grandmother of Jeremy Collins, Thomas DeRosa, Matthew, Jeffrey and Ambri Harri.
Jane was born in Bennington, a graduate of the Bennington High School, and a graduate of Samaritan Hospice School of Nursing. An active member of the United Methodist Church of Lansingburgh, she was also a member of the UMW of the Church. She was employed as an RN and a supervisor of the Leonard Hospital in Troy, retiring in 1982. Her grandfather, James Henry Livingston, founded the Bennington Banner.
The funeral will be Tuesday morning at 10 am at the McLoghlin and Mason Funeral Home, 8-109th St at 3rd Ave in Lansingburgh. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Calling hours are Monday, 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions to the United Methodist Church of Lansingburgh would be appreciated.
Dacula, GA – Virginia J. Livingston Brantner, homemaker, mother, grandmother, friend and independent spirit, 96, died July 8, 2018, at Angels Garden Senior Communities, following more than three years of residence there. She was born January 16, 1922 in Bennington, Vermont, the daughter of J. Guy and Velma (Blue) Livingston.
Interested in helping with the war effort during World War II, Virginia proudly joined the US Coast Guard Women’s Reserve (SPARs) in 1944. Virginia trained in West Palm Beach, FL and was posted to the Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C. While posted in D.C., she met her future husband, Charles B. Brantner, a US Navy pilot. Honorably discharged from the SPARs in 1946, Virginia married Charles at the Livingston family homestead in Bennington in 1947.
She is survived by her four children, three granddaughters and two grandsons. Memorial services in Georgia include visitation hours at Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, Lawrenceville, on July 11 from 6 – 8 PM, followed by a life celebration service at Cannon United Methodist Church in Snellville on July 12 at 3:00 PM. Memorial services and interment in Maine will be held at a later date.
WINTERPORT - Charles "Charlie" Benton Brantner, husband, father, CPA, aviator, gardener, 78 died June 12, 2003, when his plane crashed at the Pittsfield Municipal Airport. He was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Washington D.C., the son of Lester Cline and Emma (Furtney) Brantner. He was raised in Washington D.C., and Decateur, Ga., graduating from McKinley Technical High School in Washington, D.C. in 1942. A veteran, he served as a Lieutenant and pilot in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 and in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1961. Following his service in World War II, he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1949, majoring in accounting. In addition to beginning his career as a certified public accountant in Metropolitan Washington D.C., he held a number of other positions including accountant for the Embassy of the Netherlands in the administration of the Marshall Plan, assistant controller with American University, and comptroller of Kenwood Golf & Country Club. He settled in Adelphi, Md. in 1955 to raise a family. Known to everyone as "Chuck," he was active in his neighborhood.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia (Livingston) Brantner, of Winterport; their four children, Karl Brantner and his wife, Kate, of Cumberland, Hugh Brantner and his wife, Mary Brown, of Freeport, Andrea Brantner of Stamford, Conn., and Jeffrey Brantner and his wife, Van, of Washington D.C. He is also survived by his brother, Lester C. Brantner, of Sun City center, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and his three granddaughters, Olivia Brantner of Freeport, and Anna and Molly Brantner of Cumberland. Visiting hours will be held at Foley Funeral Home, 299 Union St., Bangor, 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003. Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
