Maxine Sylvia Stevens Clark, 83, of Rutland, died Sunday morning, October 9, 2011, at the Mountain View Genesis Elder Care Center following a brief illness.
She was born on June 6, 1928, in Brandon, the daughter of Earl F. and Gladys (Bryant) Stevens Sr.
Mrs. Clark grew up in Brandon, and graduated from the Rutland High School in 1945.
She married Stanley C. Clark on June 16, 1946, in Rutland, and starting in 1948, for the next 23 years she was a military wife traveling with her husband prior to his discharge from the U.S. Army and relocating back to Rutland in 1968. They had resided in many states, including Texas, Maryland, Virginia, and Alabama. She also lived in France during that period.
Mrs. Clark's greatest enjoyment was belonging to the Disabled American Veterans in Rutland Unit #7 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #31 organizations. She served in the DAV local unit as Commander in 1980, and again in 1984. She also served as Adjutant from 1984 until her illness prevented her from doing so.
Her service to the disabled veterans at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, and the VA Hospital in White River Junction, was well known. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross during their blood drives for over 30 years, and at their store in Rutland. She took part in Naturalization ceremonies from 1997 though 2001.
Mrs. Clark enjoyed collecting pigs.
Her early work assignments were with Arnold Pen Co. in Virginia during 1949, and with Montgomery Ward in Rutland in 1952 and 1953.
Survivors include a brother Michael B. Stevens and his wife Connie of Green Bay, Wisc., and Largo, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother in 1977, her father in 1986, also by her husband Stanley C. Clark on January 7, 1995, a brother Earle F. Stevens Jr. on September 22, 2005, and a sister-in-law Betty W. Stevens on March 28, 2003.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at the Aldous Funeral Home. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Cheney Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. C. David (Vola M. Dash) Brady, 70, of Decatur died Monday July 24,1978 in St. Marys hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday at Dawson's with burial in the Macon County Memorial Park cemetery.
She was born in Clinton, daughter of Earl and Cecil Dash. She married C. David Brady in 1925. He died in 1956. Surviving are son David, of Decatur, daughters, Mrs. Rose Marie Zerfowski, Mrs. Florence Cook and Mrs. Phyllis Botts all of Decatur, Jeanette Sullivan of Kalamazoo, Mich. Brother, Oren Dash of Decatur, sisters, Mrs. Dorthea Oestrich of Champaign, Mrs. Lillian Kost Jr. of Kansas City, Kan, 26 grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren. A sister preceded her in death.
