Capt George Darrow - Rev. war exploits as recounted by son John (1802).
"...his said father volunteered services at New Concord, Columbia Co., NY., was chosen or appointed Lieutenant in his company, His father...went with his company to Boston and was in the Battle of Bunker Hill (1775) as he has often heard his father say in his lifetime...afterwards his father was appointed Captain, and went with the army to Quebec and was in the Battle of Quebec and belonged to the division commanded by General (Benedict) Arnold - has heard his father relate the incidents and hardships of
that campaign often...appointed Adjutant, and served in the Army of Gen. Philip Schuyler - was detached as a pasrt of the command under Gen. Stark, and was at theBattle of Bennington (8/16/1777)...was on horseback by the side of his father...were at the Battle of Stillwater...at the Battle of Saratoga (1777), and the surrender of (British) Gen. Burgoyne and his army...marched to Albany(NY) and scharged...remained home with his family till spring following (1778), when he again received and accepted a Captaincy commission in the army and was stationed at Saratoga...until the close of the war(1783),,,"

1st marriage to Mary Lyons - only reference is a DAR application in reference to son John, who claimed a NY birth. Assuming that CT records are comprehensive, the only explanation for John's NY birth would be that George Darrow married Mary Lyons on the frontier aroung Albany. It then can be assumed that she died there and George Darrow went back to CT where he married Elizabeth Benjamin.
Sometime after 1765, George & Elizabeth moved to the area on the East Side of the Hudson River south of Albany and in Albany Co. of the Province of NY. On 2/9/1770, George & Elix. Darrow (then of Concord Chatham) Albany Co. (Columbia Co.),Province of NY) signed a deed of sale, in Preston, to John Ray (Rae) for 40 acres of land in Preston in return for £70. Ebenezer Benjamin & Elisha York Witnessed the deed. Also in Feb 1770 at Preston (they were living in Concord/Chatham\Albany\NY), George & Elizabeth signed a deed of sale for 6 acres in Preston CT to Ebenezer Benjamin. The deed was signed by John Rhea?(Ray) & Elisha York. In Jan 1772, George & Elizabeth Darrow signed a Deed of Sale in Concord (Chatham), Albany County, Province of NY for the sale of 42 acres of land situated in Preston CT to Walter Fanning (husband of Grace Benjamin) for £90. Witnesses in Concord were Jane Van Schaach & Joseph Darrow & deed was recorded in Preston CT on 7/13/1772. The land was Elizabeth's share of her father's estate.
In a deed dated 2/4/1777 at Plainfield, Windham Co,, CT, they sold their interest in a parcel of land in Preston, CT that had been given to a Widow Phebe Wheeler as her inheritance (her 3rds). The land was sold to Ezekial Bundy for £60. Phebe Wheeler may have been Elizabeth's mother who may have married a 3rd time to a Wheeler. George & Elizabeth were listed as from King's District, county of Albany, Province of NY & the deed sworn before Plainfield CT Justice of the Peace: Jabez Fitch & recorded in Preston on 2/8/1777 by Roger Sterry, Registrar. In a deed sworn 5/25/1780 before King's District, Albany County, NY Justice of the Peace John Beebe, George & Elizabeth sold land in Preston CT to Amos Hutchinson (Eliz's step brother) for £102. This was land Elizabeth had inherited from her father, Daniel Benjamin. The deed was registered in Preston on 8/17/1780.
