William Leslie Nilsson, 69, 7346 S. State, Midvale, died Tuesday at 12:35 p.m. of cancer. Retired worker of the United States Smelting and Refining Co. Born Oct. 16, 1889, Monroe, Sevier County, Utah, to Jeppa and Susan Swain Nilsson. Married Mildred I. Higginson July 4, 1916, Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors: widow; sons, daughters, William L. Jr., Midvale; D. Wayne, Sandy; J. Lynn, Cottonwood Heights; H. Dale, Sandy; Mrs. D. R. (Afton) Allsop, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. O. A. Johnson, Salt Lake City; two brothers, one sister and 22 grandchildren.
Funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m., Midvale Second LDS Ward chapel. Friends may call Friday, 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday at the chapel prior to services. Burial in Midvale City Cemetery.
Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, William Leslie Nilsson, Jr., age 78, returned to his Father-in-Heaven, March 5, 1995 at home in East Midvale with his loving wife at his side.
Born February 13, 1917 in Knightville, Utah, to William Leslie and Mildred Higginson Nilsson. He married Maurine Tripp, September 12, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Bill was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous callings throughout his life, including ward and stake clerk, for 29 years. He received a lot of pleasure from his service in the Jordan River Temple. He proudly served his country during World War II. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife, Maurine; children, David (Gwen) Nilsson, Salt Lake City; Mark (Robyn) Nilsson, St. George; Sharon (Steve) Hastings, Sandy; Ruth (Robert) Greenwood, Tucson, Arizona; and Leslie (Mark) Dyches, South Jordan; grandchildren, Laurie, Matt, Andrea, Jon, Robbie, Ryan, Cori, Tara, Chris, Britta, Eric, Scott, Kiersten, Erik, and Kailey. Also survived by his brothers, Wayne, Lynn, and Dale, and a sister, Gene Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lewis, and a sister, Afton Allsop.
Dad, we love you and will always remember your quiet example!
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. in the Midvale East LDS Stake Center, 240 East 7570 So. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the stake center from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.
