John Root

• John Root was born on 26 February 1607/08 in Badby, Northamptonshire, England.
• After the death of his father John was adopted by his uncle, a brother of his father. The uncle was an elderly man of means and a zealous opponent of the Roman Catholic Church. He insisted John should join the Parliamentary Army under Cromwell to fight Charles I and the Catholics, but John was opposed to war; instead he joined a company of Puritans who were coming to America.
• He immigrated to Farmington, Connecticut, in 1639.¹

• In 1722 Thomas served in Waterbury (where he was a landholder) as grand juror, school committeeman, townsman. In 1722 and 1723 he was a representative in the Legislature. He was one of the wealthiest men in Waterbury. He was a deacon.

• Samuel was a resident of Farmington in 1672 and was probably one of the original 30 of Farmington. Also he was one of the first company to settle Waterbury, ca 1677.
