Cyrus P. Curtiss, a well known resident of this community, died last Saturday morning, at St. John's hospital in Springfield, where he had been a patient for a week.
Mr. Curtiss was born in Knoxville, Illinois, April 8, 1858, the son of Cyrus and Ruth Palmer. At the age of five years he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Curtiss of Waverly.
He was united in marriage in 1880, to Miss Minnie Allen, who preceded hi in death 25 years ago.
He is survived by three children, Frank O. Curtiss, Springfield, Homer Curtiss of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Ruth Schiller, of Houston, Texas; one brother, George Palmer, of Augusta, Ill.; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the Neece Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2:30, in charge of Rev. F. E. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church.
Interment was in East cemetery.

He was born to Cyrus Palmer & Ruth Pierson Palmer in Knoxville, IL and adopted by Ralph Curtiss when he was 5 years old.
BARNARD, ELENA M. Elena Morin Barnard of Branford was surrounded by her children when she died on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Theodore Winthrop Barnard. Mrs. Barnard was born March 3, 1943 in Hoboken, NJ, daughter of the late Anthony and Ann Redjo Morin. She was a secretary at Yale University for 15 years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, both vegetables and flowers. She loved vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard and spending her summer days at the Owenego Inn. She is survived by her children, Tiffany (Andy) Davidson of Weston, Theodore W. (Laura) Barnard of Ivoryton and Taylor (Kevin) Erickson of Branford; her step-children, Susan Barnard of VA, Gregg (Ann) Barnard of IN and Debra (Jim) Matthews of NY; her brother Thomas (Raquel) Morin of RI; her grandchildren, Alex, Drew, Billy, Chelsea, Ian, Evan, Caroline, Jordan, Connor, Emma, and Jane; and her great-grandson Theo. Elena will be dearly missed by her family, friends and those she touched. Relatives and friends may call Friday evening from 5 – 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday morning at 10:00 in St. Therese Church, Branford.
