A post on Facebook from his granddaughter Cynthis Strain del Castillo:
Today I pay tribute to my Grandfather, born this day in 1893. Lloyd del Castillo was a renowned pianist and organist; Harvard music graduate (1914), WWI Veteran, Staff organist & production manager at Boston's WEEI, conductor of the Boston Symphony, talented illustrator and cartoonist and the first to put music to the silent films. He moved his family from Boston to Hollywood in 1943 at the beckoning of the studios and worked in collaboration with Theodore Geisel (Dr.Seuss) and Charles Schultz (Charlie Brown). "Del" enjoyed a long, successful career as a concert organist and educator who produced several albums and taught Michael Jackson how to read music! He remained very active in Los Angeles until his death 1992 at 99 yrs old, leaving quite a legacy for me and the following generations of our small family. I salute you today my Pompa, I was so very fortunate to have known you.9
Cynthia wrote the following on her Facebook page after her mother died:
Today I lost the most amazing Mom a child could ever hope to have. Smart, scarcastic and funny as hell. Strong and independent. Pretty, practical and pragmatic. Bold, blunt and opinionated. Grounded and consistent, loyal and loving....Damnit Mom, I am going to miss you so much. Godspeed.4
